Nestling between the Mijas Mountains and Mediterranean Sea, The Lew Hoad Tennis Village is a magical place for a holiday home on the Costa del Sol. Tucked away from the hurly-burly of the coast and set in landscaped tropical gardens, this Andalucian style village provides a tranquil haven to live in and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in the sun.
You don’t actually need to play tennis to enjoy Lew Hoad’s! Many people buy apartments here simply because it’s such a lovely and peaceful place to be.
The Lew Hoad Tennis Village is an intimate development of four apartment groups clustered around the Village pool and grounds. Built in picturesque Andalucian style, Lew Hoad’s looks delightful in the Spanish sun, with terracotta roofs, white walls and black iron work set against splashes of green and vivid colours from the mature, tropical gardens.
There is a large swimming pool in the Village surrounded by sun terraces where you can laze away your days in the sunshine and enjoy a leisurely swim to cool down. The terraces round the pool area are generously furnished with tables, chairs and sun loungers to be shared by residents.
The Village is in an ideal location for a holiday home on the Costa del Sol. Situated on the Ctra. de Mijas, the road between Fuengirola and Mijas, Lew Hoad’s is only 24 kms or 20 minutes drive from Malaga Airport.
Five minutes down the road from Lew Hoad’s is the town of Fuengirola: once a quaint little fishing village - but no more! Today Fuengirola is a bustling holiday resort with beautiful beaches and lots to do. If you want to take a break from the peace and quiet of Lew Hoad’s, here you will find a place buzzing with restaurants, bars and night life.
Just up the road you can sample the other side of Spain. Lew Hoad’s is close to the stunningly beautiful village of Mijas, a white village perched up high in the mountains. The views around Mijas are breathtaking and there are lots of shops to buy souvenirs and presents. Be sure to take a ride around the village on one of the special donkey taxis while you’re there!
Only a stones throw from the Village is the world famous Lew Hoad Tennis Club. Described as “the most beautiful tennis club in the world”, the Club is set in the grounds of an old Andalucian country estate, surrounded by tropical gardens, palm trees and water features.
The Tennis Club is named after the founder, Lew Hoad, who was a famous Australian tennis player of the 50’s and 60’s. Feared for his “big serve”, he won Grand Slam competitions such as Wimbledon, the US Open and the Australian Open several times.
The recently refurbished sport facilities include eight illuminated tennis courts of Plexicushion and six illuminated paddle courts. But it doesn’t stop there. Other sports and leisure facilities include a swimming pool - set in the delightful gardens, pro shop, gymnasium, hair and beauty salon, and restaurant and bar with free WiFi.
If you fancy a round of golf there are a host of courses to choose from. Within 20 minutes drive are six championship courses (Mijas, Miraflores, La Cala, Alhurin, Torrequebrada, Lauro Golf) and if you want to venture a little further, there is Valderrama, the Ryder Cup venue, about ¾ hour from the Village.
There are numerous attractions and amusements to visit in this area. Tivoli World is a vast entertainment park with live acts and theatre. From here you can also catch the cable car to the top of the mountains nearby. Mijas Aquapark is also a fantastic day out for the whole family.
Selwo Safari Park is a wild life park where you can walk through, not just drive through, to experience the animals (be quiet near the lions and tigers!). Fuengirola has its own Zoo – recently redesigned and revamped, and has opened to great accolades and plaudits from the public and press! Finally, in Benalmadena is the fantastic aquarium, Sea Life, where it’s possible to walk under the water as sharks swim overhead!
Lew Hoad’s is a good base for sightseeing too - with Ronda, Granada and Seville all within striking distance. Gibraltar is also easily accessible by the new motorway; a fascination for all Brits and a bit like Marmite – you either love it or hate it!
When you want to eat out, there are numerous restaurants close to the Village. The Tennis Club has its own excellent bar and restaurant just two minutes walk away. The bar serves food throughout the day (including breakfast) and the restaurant is open for dinner with a delicious selection of Mediterranean food and International cuisine.
There are also a number of other restaurants just a few minutes walk away and then there is our own particular favourite - the Valparaiso.
Shopping is no problem either. A small shopping centre with a very nice Danish delicatessen is 5 minutes walk from Lew Hoad’s. The nearest supermarket is Lidl – 5 minutes by car. A large Carrefour supermarket is 10 minutes away and then there is The Myramar Shopping Centre, with a large Eroski supermarket and enough shops and stores to satisfy the keenest shopaholic!
The Village has its own private car park with automatic gates. However, if you want to take a break from driving there is a regular bus service. The bus stops are outside the Village gates and there is a bus every 20 minutes in both directions up to Mijas and down to Fuengirola.
